Happy New Year!

Without a doubt, 2016 has certainly given us all a ride. Now is a time for reflection and growth. Taking an opportunity to look at past failures and finding ways for improvement. Life ain't all about sunshine and rainbows - sometimes you have to know how to buckle down to endure the storm.

Whether you viewed this year as a bumpy ride or the slide down your rainbow, everyone experienced some sort of loss, failure, disappointment, or what have you. This is certainly the time to learn to grow, prosper, and overcome.

Depression is a cling to the past, anxiety is a fear for the future, calmness is living for the present. Each day is a new beginning. The new year is only a number and now, more than ever, is an important time to remember that. Remembering how to breathe through the struggles and face our demons head on.

REFLECT: What are some things you would like to improve about yourself? Notice I did not use the word "change", allow us to focus on improvement. Its a much nicer word, don't you think? Think of some situations that you could have handled better. Circumstances that could have had better outcomes. Now what could you have done to improve those outcomes?

ACKNOWLEDGE: Now, take the time to give yourself some credit. You may not have won the race, or got first place, or even accomplished your last year's resolution for the new year... but what DID you do? What are some things about yourself that did improve?  Take the time to recognize improvements to truly be able to go full force into future improvements.

Remember to acknowledge the little things, because in the end they mean the most. The most insignificant aspects of life that we fly by during our busy lives - we sometimes forget how to breathe. Those that you hold close to you, make every day count. And I don't mean climb a mountain in a day, but take a few moments out of your day to make the time count.

Try not to underestimate yourself; you are the only one that can change your outlook. No quotes on a screen could ever give you the amount of inspiration that your mind needs to change a negative thought process. You may feel otherwise, but you do have the power to make a change and you are worth it.

Make smaller goals to get yourself through each day, don't overwhelm yourself, and take the time to break for a bit from technology to recharge. It does wonders!

You've got this!
Make the most of this time that you are given.
Be the best you that you can be - because no one else can be you.

Mental Health is Not a Competition

I have been wanting to talk about this for a while from consideration of conversations I have had regarding anxiety and mental illness...
